II. Filters for Praise

1. Is it intelligible?

2. Is it encouraging?

3. Is it obviously about God?

4. Is it obviously to God?

III. How to Praise

1. Clapping and rejoicing

Psalm 47:1 – “Clap your hands, all peoples; Shout to God with the voice of joy.”

2. Lifting holy hands

1 Timothy 2:8 – “Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.”

3. Be glad and sing to Him

Psalm 9:2 – “I will be glad and exult in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.”

4. Sing and praise God to encourage others

Ephesians 5:19 – “…addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart”

5. Praise with eternity in mind

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 – “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

6. Prepare ourselves before we arrive

Psalm 100:4 – “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.”
