Living as the True Church

I. Who is the Church? (1 Timothy 3:14-16)

2 Corinthians 6:16 – “...For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” 

Ephesians 2:22 – “In him [Christ] you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.” 

1 John 4:4 – “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 

II. How Does the Church Live? (1 Timothy 4:1-16)

Acts 20:17-31

1. Defending Truth from Those Who Distort It  (1 Timothy 4:1-5)

Romans 8:29-30 – “29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.” 

2. Training Others in the Faith (1 Timothy 4:6-10)

2 Timothy 2:2 – “and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” 

3. Set the Pursuit of Godliness as a Priority in Our Teaching 

(1 Timothy 4:11-16)

2 Timothy 2:22 – “So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.”
